The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology, otherwise referred to as the G-Class EV, offers customers world-class luxury and ruggedness with the benefit of being purely electric. In a comparison test by Edmunds.com, the G 580 was pitted against its main rival, the GMC Hummer EV, in a battle of on- and off-road usability at the Hungry Valley OHV in the California desert.  

How the G 580 Gets Around 

Powering the G 580 with EQ Technology is a 116-kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack powering dual motors that combined deliver 579 horsepower and 859 lb-ft of torque.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is an icon. It is the most aspirational vehicle ever created, sporting optimal agility and capability that goes beyond measure.   

However, one may be surprised that it now comes in a battery-electric version. The G 580 with EQ Technology replaces its famed internal combustion driveline for a fully electric system. This system is fed by a 116-kilowatt-hour battery pack, fueling a drive system that puts down 579 horsepower and 859 pound-feet of torque. Plus, there is an electric motor at each wheel.
