Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle lineup proving grounds

With the Mercedes-Benz EQS arriving at Mercedes-Benz of Plano shortly, we wanted to pass along with what is coming next in our electric future.

In short, the EQS is just the beginning of a luxury electric vehicle revolution that will sweep the Metroplex.

The plan for Mercedes-Benz’s electric future comes down to some important milestones and benchmarks to be accomplished by 2025. For example, all newly launched vehicle architectures will be electric-only from 2025 on.  There are three new platforms that will be developed into multiple electric vehicle models.

The goal is to have every Mercedes-Benz powered only by electric energy by the end of this decade.
To accomplish this, Mercedes-Benz is planning on building eight Gigafactories. In all, these Gigafactories will be tasked to install battery cell capacity of more than 200 Gigawatt hours with strategic partners in place to assist in accomplishing these goals. These new partnerships will concentrate on producing these battery cells in Europe.

Another partnership is taking place with the acquisition of a company called YASA. They are a specialist in ultra-high performance axial flux motors. While concentrating on performance, Mercedes-Benz is also gaining experience through similar partnerships to achieve higher efficiency with these new future electric drivelines.

Key to the success of Mercedes-Benz’s electric future is to develop an enhanced charging infrastructure. Part of this is a program called Plug & Charge. This will introduce Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle owners to a seamless charging system without having to go through the steps of authenticating a user’s identity or to get payment at the station. This will also be accomplished through an owner’s Mercedes me Charge app account. The goal through this program is to offer 530,000 AC and DC charging points around the globe to Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle owners.

The bottom line is simple: Mercedes-Benz will be ready to go all electric by the end of the decade. By shifting from electric-first to electric-only, the world's preeminent luxury car company is accelerating toward an emissions-free and software-driven future.
