MotorTrend Finds the Sweet Spot with the 2026 AMG® GT 63 Pro 4MATIC®

If you are seeking the fastest, most powerful Mercedes-Benz AMG® Coupe available, this isn’t it. That title goes to the GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE Coupe, which features a plug-in hybrid setup with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and a 201-hp electric motor, delivering a total system power of 805 hp and 1,047 lb-ft of torque. However, if your eyes are less interested in the quarter-mile marker and more focused on stretching your view around the next curve at speed, the 603-hp 2026 AMG® GT 63 Pro might be more appealing. With insights from a MotorTrend test of the GT 63 Pro, Mercedes-Benz of Plano explains why.

The AMG® GT 63 Pro removes all the electrification from the GT 63 S E Performance, and the 528 pounds that come with it, reducing the hybrid model’s weight from 4,784 pounds to 4,256 pounds. While the hybrid drivetrain compensates for that weight in acceleration, reaching 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, completing the quarter mile in 10.4 seconds at 135.5 mph, you will have to contend with the GT 63 Pro’s 2.8 seconds to 60, and 11.0-second quarter mile at 125.5 mph.

But it’s a different story on curves, where the 202-horsepower gap matters much less, and in braking, where it doesn’t matter at all. On the publication’s skid pad, the Pro reached 1.14g compared to 1.04 for the hybrid. Meanwhile, braking to a stop from 60 mph took 96 feet compared to 102 feet for its heavier sibling.

All this has it trade almost negligible performance advantages and disadvantages with the Porsche 911 Turbo S, which is particularly impressive given that the Porsche is still 436 pounds lighter and has 98 more horsepower.

As MotorTrend puts it, the “AMG® GT  63 Pro is much more than a big-power sledgehammer, delivering a mouth-watering mix of precision and drama that belies its heft.”

At the same time, you are treated to mouth-watering V8 noises from in front and precise shifts from the 9-speed gearbox. The brakes give the wheels an honest reason to be 21 inches with massive 16.5-inch carbon-fiber discs up front—the largest applied to an AMG® sports car. MotorTrend states that they “provide good feel through an easily modulated pedal, and they offer loads of bite and confident, repeatable stops from 100 mph. Trail-braking into corners works beautifully, and the chassis overall is easy to dance between grip and slip before putting the power down well on corner exits.”

Enabling the AMG® GT 63 Pro to be more than just a canyon carver and something that will be practical for the daily commute to your enviable job is AMG® Active Ride Control® suspension. This option can relax the vehicle and driver in Comfort mode. You can even take a business road trip to Houston or San Antonio without much fuss, thanks to the liftback hatch, which provides ample room for a couple of medium-sized suitcases and other bags.

In their summary, MotorTrend describes the AMG® GT 63 Pro as “…easily the best enthusiast car AMG® builds right now and a legitimate contender against things like various 911s and Aston Martin’s much-lauded Vantage. It makes you not only revel in your driving but also think about how to get the best out of it and yourself without requiring you to have pro-level skills to do so.”

You can easily see if you agree by scheduling a test drive and subsequent visit to Mercedes-Benz of Plano, for a spirited test of the AMG® GT 63 Pro.
