​​Is The 2026 Mercedes-AMG® C 43 the Ultimate Luxury Sports Sedan?​

Ideally, the perfect sports sedan should blend passenger comfort with driver engagement, all while providing ample power and sharp – but not harsh – chassis tuning. Does the 2026 Mercedes-AMG® C 43 deliver on these qualities? TopSpeed certainly thinks so: in fact, its editors recently proclaimed the C 43 to be the “ultimate luxury sports sedan.”

From a distance, you might mistake the C 43 as just another Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan. However, a closer examination shows how much the team from Affalterbach have subtly altered it inside and out to improve performance. Externally, the C 43 gains an AMG®–specific grille insert with vertically-aligned bars, unique aerodynamic enhancements, and  AMG® 18-inch wheels – all hints that, in traditional AMG®  fashion, there’s something potent lurking underhood. 

That is indeed the case, even if the C 43’s powertrain breaks somewhat from AMG® tradition. Power comes from a hand-crafted 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is paired with a mild hybrid start-generator assist motor to produce 416 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.   

What motivates the 2026 AMG® C 43 is the handcrafted 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with hybrid starter-generator assist and an electric exhaust-gas turbocharger that lies underneath its hood. This power source is rated for 416 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. That kind of power enables the 2026 AMG®® C 43 to sprint from 0-to-60 MPH in just 4.3 seconds yet still post EPA estimates of up to 27 mpg on the highway.  

That engine is coupled to an AMG®® SPEEDSHIFT®® MCT 9-speed automatic transmission, which then sends power out to all four wheels through the AMG®® Performance 4MATIC®® all-wheel drive system. The C 43 suspension is equipped with AMG®® RIDE CONTROL technology, which lets the driver select the type of dampening desired, ranging anywhere from the ultra-firm Sport S+ setting for serious canyon carving, or a more plush comfort setting for long stints on the open highway. 

The C 43 delivers precise steering through the 3-stage AMG®® parameter rack-and-pinion with electromechanical power assist. To further quicken turn-in, the 2026 AMG®® C 43 is also equipped with active rear-wheel steering. The C 43 also offers the stopping power of the AMG®® Sport Braking System with four larger rotors and multi-piston calipers.
