Introducing the Mercedes-Benz VLE Luxury Minivan

May 1st, 2026 by

Once, it was considered out of fashion with families. However, the inherent qualities of a minivan have emerged as an advantage once again. They offer the most passenger and cargo space thanks to flexible interiors and sedan-like driving manners.

Mercedes-Benz has been offering vans for decades. The Metris passenger model was as close to a minivan as we offered. However, there is a new opportunity for us to develop a true luxury van that would attract families seeking something more special for transporting across the Metroplex and beyond.

Mercedes-Benz is introducing the VLE for 2027/2028. A minivan with battery-electric propulsion offering a level of luxury never seen on a vehicle of its kind sold in North America.

The idea is to elevate family transportation with a limousine-like ride and comfort, while also enhancing handling and vehicle control. The VLE is also seen as a new way to provide spacious executive transport. To accomplish both, a newly developed flexible seating system for up to eight people, including Grand Comfort Seating, is available. You can either arrange the seats manually via Roll & Go or use the remote, electrically operated “seat ballet” function to create variable seating positions via an app or from the center infotainment screen. Either way, you can find a comfortable seating arrangement that fits your needs.

To enhance seating flexibility, a new immersive infotainment architecture will debut in the VLE. Driven by the AI-supported Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX), the infotainment package includes a Rear Space Experience featuring a headliner-mounted, retractable 31.3-inch panoramic screen with 8K resolution. This screen can also be displayed in split-screen mode via an eight-megapixel camera. This screen can be enabled to display or utilize conference software, so you will not miss a meeting on the road.

Electric propulsion can either come from a single-motor driveline in the VLE 300 or a 4MATIC® dual-motor setup in the VLE 400. Either one will be backed by an 800-volt infrastructure and new NMC battery technology, enabling high-performance charging. Official EPA ratings for electric vehicle range have not been released, but Mercedes-Benz estimates an average 434-mile range for the VLE.

The driving experience was developed towards creating a limousine-like experience. AIRMATIC® suspension helps to level the ride without any feedback into the cabin. It is also adjustable for 1.5 inches of ride height, including a lowering function for highway cruising. Maneuverability has been maximized with a seven-degree rear axle steering, enabling a turning radius of just 35.75 feet.

That range can be easily accomplished thanks to the superb exterior design. With a drag coefficient of 0.25, the exterior silhouette embodies current Mercedes-Benz styling, featuring a grand “grille” up front, along with hands-free dual side-sliding doors and a liftgate. Passengers can also enjoy the Sky View panoramic roof, surround ambient lighting, and an electric sunblind, creating a more luxurious experience inside.

The introduction of the VLE in the U.S.A. is part of a celebration that encompasses 140 years of Mercedes-Benz history. This is a new chapter in passenger transportation that we have been waiting for.
