25C0065_125-source.jpgWelcome to a new design era for Mercedes-BenzAn era that takes efficiency and style to a new level. It starts with the all-new CLA

Making its world premiere in Rome, Italy, the all-new CLA was introduced as the “cleverest and most efficient series production car ever made by Mercedes-Benz,” according to the Mercedes-Benz USA communications team. It is set to be an “innovation powerhouse” that “captivates the soul with its striking athletic design.”

This “next level” CLA will offer more space, refinement, comfort, intelligence, and efficiency than the outgoing model. That starts with the next generation of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX), called the Mercedes-Benz Operating System – MB.OS. Using artificial intelligence as its backbone, MB.OS expands the idea of individualization and interaction that engages the vehicle with its occupants. The system integrates AI provided by both Microsoft and Google – an automotive industry first.

The CLA arrives with an electrified lineup of drivetrains, based on an 800-volt architecture. For example, the CLA 250+ with EQ Technology can charge up to 202 miles of range in just 10 minutes, which can turn a range of up to 492 miles from a 268-horsepower driveline. You can also get the CLA 350 4MATICâ , which is powered by a 349-horsepower driveline, becoming the performance variant of the lineup. The CLA will be available with a 48-volt mild hybrid driveline, as well.

25c0065_141-source.jpgWhat will attract customers to the new CLA is its design. Up front, you can see the new approach to Mercedes-Benz design with an illuminated grille and star-shaped daytime running light signature. Inside, the CLA’s inspiration is from a zen garden, which reduces everything down to essential elements. The MBUX and MB.OS systems will start from an optional Superscreen that incorporates displays for the driver and passenger and a center screen.

What drives the CLA is its commitment to sustainability in an automobile. Materials used to build the CLA are created to reduce its carbon footprint by 40 percent. Part of which are recycled materials, such as thermoplastics. In all, the CLA is crafted with 50 percent post-consumer recycled materials. Some of which are found in the foam, the substructure, and the upholstery of the seats. The carpet is made from Econyl yarn, a material produced from recycled materials. These efforts will result in overall savings in both the environment and overall costs for the vehicle.
