The legend of the Mercedes-Benz wagon began with the W 123 model. It gave owners another dimension to an already great sedan by offering more versatility combined with Mercedes-Benz engineering and luxury to make life easier. The extra cargo space could be swapped for a third row of seats, bringing more people along for the ride. That was when the station wagon was the way to go for families on the move.

The station wagon is still here. Mercedes-Benz has one that still evokes memories of the past with the technology and performance of today – the 2025 E 450 4MATIC® All Terrain

MotorTrend took one for a review and found it to be as good as any SUV in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. Simply because the 2025 E 450 4MATIC® All Terrain has a lot of the features you will find in any of our SUVs. That also includes the ability to go off the highway, as the magazine’s journalist found out.

What else did MotorTrend find? First off, they love that it can go off-road when you ask it to. It comes down to technology. To make sure that it could handle what’s ahead, the 2025 E 450 4MATIC® All-Terrain’s virtual "transparent hood" feature on the central screen can use the exterior cameras to display the ground ahead of the front wheels. This has become a useful tool if you wish to take it off the highway

The 14.4-inch center multimedia touchscreen’s portrait format shows the “transparent hood. It also offers an excellent screen for navigationall powered by the latest Mercedes‑Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system. As an added bonus, a third Superscreen is available for front-seat passengers to view their own information or entertainment options.

The AIRMATIC® suspension can enhance off-road driving. This system pairs adaptive damping with automatic level control. The multi-mode air suspension lets you raise the ride height at a button's touch and self-lower to enhance high-speed stability.

Getting there is all the fun in a 2025 E 450 4MATIC® All Terrain. It is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine with hybrid assist. Power goes up to 375 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission and the 4MATIC® all-wheel-drive system are standard. The 4MATIC® all-wheel-drive system can continuously adapt to send power to the wheels that can turn traction into action. It certainly received a lot of praise for what it does for families and individuals seeking adventure in a station wagon.
