“Smooth” is one of those words that describe how luxury should be interpreted. Like a good cold drink or Sade’s biggest hit single, that word presents a vibe we completely appreciate here in the Metroplex. Because we love anything described as “smooth.”
AutoGuide has used that word to describe the 2025 Mercedes-Benz E 450 4MATIC® sedan. In fact, it was so smooth that the writer's spouse asked whether it was an electric vehicle. To clarify, they are not reviewing the EQE, but the long-standing sedan that has been the standard for excellence for decades.
How smooth is the E 450? The AutoGuide reviewer describes their spouse’s reaction, “[s]he knows the telltales of electric power: cocooned in the sedan’s cabin, there are no vibrations and no real sound making its way into the cabin.”
This award-winning E-Class gets its smoothness from this model’s turbocharged 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine, putting down 375 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. AutoGuide described this engine as “silky smooth and effortlessly torquey,” adding that “[t]he engineering team [at Mercedes-Benz] has managed to remove any semblance of vibration from the powertrain, the only hint of former-dino being converted into forward propulsion being a muffled hum from somewhere aft of the rear seats.” All E 450 sedans get the 4MATIC® all-wheel drive system, which maximizes traction in any condition the Metroplex offers year-round.
According to AutoGuide, the driving experience “prioritizes comfort.” For example, the “brakes are strong and positive right from the first millimeter of pedal travel.” The ride quality was described by AutoGuide as “so smooth, so composed as it sails over bumps and rough surfaces, that it separates itself from the pack and justifies its premium status. Not only is the damping sensational, the noise isolation is next level, turning this mid-sized sedan into a personal cocoon.”
It is also a comfortable place to be. As AutoGuide described the front seats: “The simple stitching pattern exudes class, and there’s just enough contouring to keep folks in place without holding them there.”
This lends itself to the interior’s design. AutoGuide said: “The cabin design revolves around that, but there is a satisfying elegance beyond the bling, such as the graceful arc of the vents up and around said glass. How the door panels subtly wrap up and behind the main dashboard mass has an almost nautical feel, too.” They also refer to the quality as being well put together.
Each E 450 4MATIC® sedan receives a series of three screens: The 12.3-inch driver information screen, the 14.4-inch infotainment touchscreen driven by the Mercedes-Benz User Experience, and an additional 12.3-inch information screen in front of the passenger. They described the center screen as “crisp and quick-reacting.”
In summary, AutoGuide praised the 2025 E 450 4MATICâ sedan as the “quintessential modern” Mercedes-Benz. It is “[h]andsome, stately, and blessed with a waftability nothing in the class can touch, it feels every inch the luxury car—in some ways, even more so than the aging S-Class. Forget any SUV at this price: if you want the smoothest operator, there’s life in the sedan shape yet.”
