Mercedes-Benz vehicles are among the most tech-forward on sale today, and the automaker’s prowess is on full display in newer models with an MBUX virtual assistant system. The new interface blends artificial intelligence, 3D graphics, and more to create an immersive and ultra-personal experience. Mercedes upgraded the system earlier this year, making it smarter and more useful than before.

The latest Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system features more natural interactions and proactive features that are designed to be helpful before you need them. The “Hey Mercedes” voice assistance system now features Unity game-engine graphics, and the whole thing runs on a new operating system and architecture. Mercedes said its new interface is more human-like than ever and noted that it uses AI to make proactive recommendations and offer features.

A new Surround Navigation system pairs a camera view of the real-world surroundings with overlayed navigation graphics and information. The interface offers traffic information, 3D graphics, and situational awareness to sense other vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. The new operating system also supports third-party apps, including Zoom and WebEx meetings, travel with Booking.com, and more.

The Mercedes partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment brings streaming video and movies to the MBUX interface, and over-the-air updates keep the system running smoothly with improvements and new features. Owners interested in cryptocurrencies and NFTs will be happy to learn that the new MBUX system brings an NFT wallet and other features that connect to the larger crypto world. The automaker worked with tech company NVIDIA to develop the chipset and hardware behind this advanced system, helping support the massive screen real estate Mercedes installs in some models.

Of course, all of this advanced tech doesn’t mean Mercedes-Benz forgot the essentials. MBUX will still offer Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto®, multiple USB inputs, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and more. Though packed with features, MBUX is an easy-to-use system with crisp graphics and easy navigation. Mercedes also goes to great lengths to help reduce driver distraction, so using the myriad of displays is surprisingly easy while driving.

The Mercedes-Benz infotainment system offers excellent entertainment and tech features but also supports the brand’s advanced safety technologies. The infotainment system offers controls for most advanced driver aids, and Mercedes offers several assistance features, such as a head-up display, that relies on the system for hardware support and control.
