Mercedes-Benz has put every luxury SUV on the market on notice as it offers one of the more perfect SUVs with the first-ever GLC SUV with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant called the GLC 350e 4MATIC®. Hybrid vehicles are considered by many experts to be the sweet spot for buyers looking for an environmentally friendly vehicle that can be fully electric while still having a gas engine for long-distance worry-free traveling.
Engine, Battery Pack, and Performance
The 2025 GLC 350e 4MATIC® starts life with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 201 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque on its own. Mercedes-Benz then adds a 23.3-kWh Lithium-Ion battery pack that adds an additional 134 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque for a combined output of 313 horses and 406 lb-ft of thrust. The engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, which helps to ensure that the car will find the perfect gear for every driving situation while getting great fuel economy. This allows the GLC 350e to blast to 60 mph in only 5.9 seconds, which is very good for an SUV that is more about luxury and comfort than speed and all-out performance.
Fuel Economy
Speaking of fuel economy, the EPA says the GLC 350e will return 23 mpg (city) and 28 mpg (highway), just driving with the gas engine alone. When combining gas and electricity, the GLC gets 60 MPGe in the city and 70 MPGe on the highway. You can also use just the electric motor to drive normally around town, or even on the highway up to 87 mph. The GLC 350e has an EV range of 54 miles, which is best in class. And thanks to a new vacuum-independent electromechanical brake booster, the system can recover more energy lost during braking than a normal hydraulic brake system.
Why the GLC 350e Is More Special than the Competition
What makes the Mercedes-Benz GLC PHEV so special is that no one else is really going about having such a well-rounded package at a very modest price. For instance, the all-new Porsche Macan is going fully electric, which will certainly leave some customers looking for a different SUV. BMW has the X5 xDrive50e, which has a base price of $74,275, some $13,225 more expensive than the GLC 350e. The BMW also has an estimated EV range of just 38 miles. And then there’s the Volvo XC60 Recharge, which runs about the same price as the Mercedes. However, like the BMW, it has a very limited range of 35 miles.
Incredible Technology
Where the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e 4MATIC® really stands out from other luxury SUV offerings is in its interior quality, fit and finish, and technology. The latest third generation MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) operating system offers some truly amazing features, such as an available augmented reality head-up display. When driving the GLC just say "Hey, Mercedes," and the in-car voice assistant can be asked all sorts of questions. It uses state-of-the-art algorithms to answer back and have something of a conversation. You can ask the vehicle to tell you the latest news, change radio stations, or even find directions for you. The system is continually learning the wishes and preferences of the user to the point where it almost seems to anticipate his or her commands.

The GLC is a very safe vehicle. And while the Insurance Insitute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has yet to test the 2025 GLC model, the GLC is unchanged from the 2024 model that was awarded the coveted Top Safety Pick designation for safety in crash testing and for tech features that work to prevent accidents and collisions.
