How long does it take to charge the S 580e?

There are currently three types of charging.

  • Level 1 charging is any regular 110V outlet that you can plug into. It takes the longest to charge an electric vehicle as this is used for standard household items. Typically, you will see about 3 miles of range for every hour of charge.

  • Level 2 charging is when you have installed a 240V outlet in your home to charge your car. Dryers and refrigerators use 240-volt outlets, making this easy for a qualified electrician to put in your garage. You will usually see 17-20 miles of range for every hour you are plugged in for home charging. Most public charging stations are Level 2 systems located within downtown areas, public parking garages, some local parks, etc. Some are free, while others are not.

  • Level 3 charging is called DC Fast charging, and it is currently the fastest type of charging available for electric vehicles. More and more charging stations along roads and highways are DC fast chargers to help get you back on the road more quickly. These do cost money, and by using your phone or a credit card, you can pay at the machine, similar to how you would pay at a gas pump.

With Level 1 charging, Mercedes-Benz says it will only take 2.25 hours to charge from 10% to 100%. A Level 3 DC Fast charging will charge from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes.
