The Mercedes-Benz AMG® GT is one of the best sports cars on the market, and it really has put Mercedes in a proper position to challenge the Porsche 911, whether that be on the street or on the race track.
For 2024 Mercedes will be bringing out an all-new version of their already hot high-end performance car and continue it being one of the most beautiful cars in the world.
What We Know
While Mercedes-Benz is being tight-lipped so far about the new AMG® GT, we do know that, like the new Mercedes-Benz AMG® SL, it will become a 2+2 and ride on Mercedes’ new Modular Sports Architecture (MSA) platform. Because the AMG® GT shares its platform architecture with the newly redesigned SL, for 2024 and beyond, the AMG® GT will be a coupe-only car. Meaning if you prefer a drop-top, the AMG® SL 55 or 63 will be your vehicle of choice.
A Whole New Level Of Performance

The interior, engine choices, and 9-speed transmission should all be the same or similar between the two cars, but with the GT carrying more horsepower and torque than the SL as it will remain the pinnacle of performance and speed for the Mercedes-Benz brand. Another way it should differentiate itself from its convertible-only sibling is the availability of rear-wheel drive. Whereas the AMG® SL only comes in all-wheel drive, as the GT will undoubtedly be optional with either two or four wheels to get the power to the ground.
In its current form, the AMG® SL 55 has an AMG® 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that outputs 469 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Stepping up to the AMG® SL 63 gives you the same motor but with 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Expect to see the AMG® GT and GT S be given more power and torque.
The Future of Mercedes-Benz
Reports tell us that Mercedes-Benz is looking to make a plug-in hybrid model that should be called the AMG® GT 63 S E that could bring around 800 or more horsepower. Like most other previous AMG® models, we should also see a Black Series variant at some point, too. The Black Series cars are always the most track-focused. At least one ultra-rare enthusiast-based AMG® GT should make an appearance within a couple of years as part of Mercedes-Benz's new Mythos Series that sits just below the Maybach sub-brand as the most luxurious sporting cars.
At Mercedes-Benz of Plano, we are happy to offer our assistance in getting you more information about the whole line of AMG® models, as well as any other Mercedes product. We look forward to making you happy with your next new or pre-owned purchase.
