The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has never just been the brand’s largest sedan. Across decades, it has had a well-earned reputation as having the finest engineering of any production car on the planet. It is the standard of reference; that all other luxury car manufacturers measure their products against.

With the industry turning to electric-driven drivetrains and Mercedes-Benz developing its own robust family of battery electric vehicles, the EQS has been developed to deliver on the promise of being nothing less than the S-Class of electric vehicles. Mercedes-Benz of Plano wants to give you a beginning impression of what that means.

Mercedes-Benz State-of-the-Art Inside and Out

At first glance, it is clear that the EQS Sedan was designed to slip through the wind, barely noticed but have a presence that commands attention from the human eye. Mercedes-Benz DNA pervades the deceptively simple form from the badge-led smooth heritage face to the cabin, almost stretching to the length of its 126.4-inch wheelbase, to its beautifully rendered full-width LED tail lights.  In addition to accommodating the wind,   the long sloping rear roof also enhances cargo access with a hatch that provides a large opening from the rear bumper to above the rear window.

Large LED screens are common among other modern cars and EVs, but no one presents them with the simple elegance of the EQS Hyperscreen. The Hyperscreen encompasses a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 17.7-inch central touch screen, and a 12.3-inch touch screen for the front passenger. In addition to giving them full infotainment access, the latter display allows the front passenger to take on the natural role of navigator.

Beyond the LED screens is a head-up display including augmented reality navigation which shows you exactly where to turn without you ever taking your eyes off the road. No printed words can adequately convey how useful this feature is in the real world, and you’ll just have to visit Mercedes-Benz of Plano to try it for yourself on a test drive.

Truly Useful Voice Command

More quickly understood is the “Hey Mercedes” voice command feature since it works in a manner similar to Siri and other smartphone AI applications. After getting its attention with the “Hey Mercedes” greeting, it will respond with “How can I help you?” after which you can request anything in perfectly colloquial English. The system will control systems such as phone use, audio, and navigation, as well as almost any other system that pushes electrons, such as seat heaters or the ambient light color or intensity. You can even ask it to tell you a joke.

It Knows You and Learns From You

The EQS can store six driver profiles based on fingerprint scans. Included in these profiles are driver’s seat and mirror settings, audio presets, gauge cluster choice, climate control and ambient lighting preferences, head-up display settings, and more.

The level of brake regeneration system can be controlled by paddles behind the steering wheel. Or you select the D-Auto mode by pressing and holding on either paddle. With the D-Auto setting, the level of brake regeneration is determined by the EQS based on its safety system sensors' reading of current conditions and the navigation system’s knowledge of upcoming intersections and traffic.  In addition, it learns and adapts based on your driving style. The system even informs you of the best time to lift your foot from the accelerator to achieve maximum braking regeneration.

Powerful Drivetrains and Quick Charging

The EQS comes with three drivetrains ranging from the rear-drive EQS 450 Sedan producing 329 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque to the two-motor all-wheel-drive EQS 580 4MATIC with an output of 516 hp and 611 lb-ft of torque. All models have a 108 kWh lithium-ion battery, and the estimated range for all these drivetrains is 340 - 350 miles. With a 200 kW charge rate, a fast DC-direct charge from 10% to 80% can occur in about 31 minutes.

All of the EQS trim levels are lavish with Burmester surround® audio, panorama roof, 64-color ambient lighting, and front seat massage. The Exclusive Trim adds mostly enhanced climate control, while the Pinnacle Trim is basically for chauffeur-driven situations with greatly enhanced rear seat indulgences. They all have to be seen to be truly appreciated, and we have plenty of them in the Mercedes-Benz of Plano inventory.
