What if an electric vehicle can achieve the impossible? How would it accomplish that?
Mercedes-Benz wanted to explore how to make the electric vehicle achieve more range. To attain carbon neutral targets, while advancing design, engineering, and pushing the boundaries of technology to achieve all of these goals.
That is why Mercedes-Benz unveiled the VISION EQXX Concept. It is a demonstration of cutting-edge ideas that breaks through technological barriers and lift energy efficiency to new heights.
The goal was simple: Achieve energy consumption at a rate 10 kilowatt-hours per 100 kilometers – approximately 62 miles. That would result in a range of 1000 km or 621 miles.
The story of the VISION EQXX is beyond just battery range. It is the integration of everything that is needed to achieve this range. The platform is a next-generation Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture for compact and mid-sized vehicles. This platform is flexible, but it will primarily house an electric drive system and battery pack designed – both engineered for lighter weight.
Advanced aerodynamics will take a huge role in future electric vehicles. To achieve higher efficiency, the body and chassis must be able to cheat the wind. The benchmark for this concept is a drag coefficient of 0.17. The EQS measured at 0.20 CD.
In all, the VISION EQXX was created by pushing the envelope of what we know about the automobile while doing more with less. By utilizing less weight and less resistance to the wind, it can achieve more efficiency and range from its electric infrastructure.
However, you have access to the future right now. The EQS electric flagship is the current pinnacle of what an electric vehicle should be. We know we can do better, but the EQS is a proven start towards achieving greater goals towards a carbon neutral world.
