No. 57 Winward Racing, No. 56 Murillo Racing, and No. 11 Capstone Motorsports teams had a victorious weekend at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.  This was the first time that the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport customer teams were able to command a win in every race they entered on an IMSA Race weekend since the 2018 introduction of the Mercedes-AMG GT4 program in North America.

The championship weekend started off with the Michelin Pilot Challenge on Saturday.  Murillo Racing’s victory with co-drivers Eric Foss and Kenton Koch behind the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG GT4, in the Grand Sport (GS) class, narrowed the gap to the championship leaders by 70 points.  Their third win of the season puts them in a great position with only two races left in the series.  Koch, racing in his final race as a substitute for regular No. 56 driver, Jeff Mosing, was able to take the lead with just under 5 minutes to go.  Mosing is set to return in the team’s next race at the VIR (Virginia International Raceway), after spending part of the season recovering from an injury in the spring.  The GS Class race was plagued with incidents throughout most of the first half, causing the field to shift around quite a bit with only 23 out of the 39 cars finishing out the race.

In the Bronze Cup, Capstone Motorsports co-drivers Gary Ferrera and Kris Wilson, driving the Merciedes-AMG GT4, completed their sixth win of the season.  Within the first hour, the race saw contact action from the very start, with many cars getting caught in the melee.  This win extends an already comfortable lead for the team after the first eight rounds.  While they met with some challenges and near-miss incidents, the were able to pull out the victory and widen their overall lead.

Wrapping up the weekend, the IMSA Fastland SportsCar Weekend at Road America on Sunday played host to teams in a two hour and 40-minute race, ran in wet and dry conditions.  The Winward, driving the Mercedes-AMG GT3, took a victory while banking on fuel gamble with 40-minutes to go.  The team decided not to pit Ellis, choosing to save fuel with competitive and smart driving.  The choice worked well when a caution period with under 10 minutes to go took away any concerns.  The victory was Ward, Ellis, and all Winward’s first IMSA GT Daytona (GTD) first since the 2021 Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Mercedes-AMG Mortosport customer teams will next race in IMSA competition at VIR, August 26-28.  With a three-race sweep in one weekend of racing, Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Teams are a force on the track.
