The North American Car of The Year is one of the most prestigious awards a vehicle can receive. In fact, Mercedes-Benz has won twice, dating back to 1994.
For 2022, two of our finest models are up for this award. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class and EQS have just been named the semifinalist list by the panel of jurors for the North American Car of the Year award.
To explain how this award works, the North American Car of The Year awards are not decided by a single publication. They are evaluated throughout the year by 50 respected jurors from print, online, radio and broadcast media across the U.S. and Canada. Those jurors vote three times during the year to reduce the list of eligible vehicles down to semifinalists, finalists and, finally, winners.
Both the S-Class and EQS are flagship sedans with a purpose to be the “Best or Nothing.” The new S-Class introduced a set of technologies engineered for optimal safety and driver engagement. For example, it features the first side collision avoidance system that raises the vehicle to minimize the impact of an oncoming vehicle. It also offers the latest design and the newest platform for the Mercedes-Benz User Experience and Mercedes me engagement platforms.

Alongside the S-Class is the all-electric EQS flagship sedan. A marvel of engineering that offers quick recharging, exceptional range, expected luxury, and the Hyperscreen that will inform, entertain, and amaze you at the same time.
The next step in the process is an annual comparison drive, where jurors will evaluate the semifinalist vehicles before voting to select the three finalists in each group. The finalists will be announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 17, and winners will be announced in January 2022 during an event in Detroit.
