Performance

All Sprinters (the eSprinter is covered separately) use diesel fuel. The standard engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 170 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. An optional high-performance version of the same engine, with increased turbo boost, delivers 211 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is available but only with the high-output engine. The acceleration isn’t quick, but for the sake of the cargo, you probably don’t want it to be. Car and Driver reported the 170-hp model’s 0-60 time at 13.5 seconds, while the 211-hp engine brings that down to 12.0 seconds.

The 170-hp model can tow up to 5,000 pounds, while the 211-hp models can tow up to 7,500 pounds when properly equipped.

There are multiple chassis strengths, each with its own maximum payload level:

• Worker and 2500: 4211 lb.
• 3500 4,699 lb.
• 3500XD 5,739 lb.
• 4500 6.812 lb.

The 2500 can be equipped with either engine. 3500 and above use the 211-hp engine exclusively. All chassis feature an independent front strut suspension, while the rear uses a solid axle and leaf springs that don’t intrude into the cargo area. On models 3500 and above, the rear suspension includes a subframe with a sway bar.

Exterior

By definition, a van is a box on wheels, so you won’t find the swoopy curves of Mercedes-Benz passenger car models on the Sprinter. Still, the Mercedes-Benz grille adds a modern touch and instantly lends the vehicle a bit of panache, signaling to your customers that you are good at what you do and that you plan to be around for a while.

While you may immediately think of a Sprinter as white, there are 22 exterior colors to choose from.

Interior

The Sprinter features a straightforward yet well-designed dashboard. While practicality is paramount, the Sprinter Van offers a spacious, comfortable interior with supportive seats upholstered in easy-to-clean materials. You can personalize your van with available packages that include heated front seats, power-adjustable seats with lumbar support, and automatic climate control.

The cargo area is versatile, and Mercedes offers pre-formed business uplifting packages that can tailor the vehicle for:

• Delivery services

Technology

Both the standard 7-inch and available 10.3-inch center touchscreen are placed high to minimize eye distraction. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, and the MBUX “Hey Mercedes” intelligent voice control system easily understands voice commands spoken in conventional English. Cargo vans come standard with a 5-speaker audio system, all in the cabin area.

Safety

Advanced Safety innovation has always been part of the Mercedes-Benz value proposition. The company has pioneered safety tech, including the first crumple zones, a center airbag between the front seats, electronic stability control, and more. All Sprinter cargo vans include Active Brake Assist, which uses sensors to assist the driver in coming to an emergency stop if it senses an imminent crash. Other available features include:

• Active Blind Spot Assist—This feature provides visual and audible warnings to the driver if the vehicle begins to leave its lane without signaling or if it signals while something is in the blind spot. Even when you are stationary, the system can still alert you to approaching objects when you open your door to get out.
• 360-Degree Camera—Particularly useful for perfect parking within a space.
• ATTENTION ASSIST®—Monitors up to 70 parameters of driving behavior and automatically alerts the driver with visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness during long trips.
• Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC®—This system will not only keep your vehicle at a certain distance while using cruise control, but also react to stationary vehicles, automatically restart if you come to a complete stop, and can be set up to 130 mph.
• Traffic Sign Assist—Helps identify the right speed and lets you know when it’s changed.

• Wet Wiper System—Each wiper contains multiple washer nozzles to ensure a clean wipe when dry
• Active Lane Keeping Assist—Available from 37 mph and faster, this system monitors lane markings on the sides of the vehicle to help keep you in the lane. If a crash is imminent, the vehicle can help steer the driver out of the situation and will alert the driver visually and audibly.
