Drivetrain

All AMG® SL models are powered by engines crafted entirely by hand at the Affalterbach facility using the “One Man, One Engine” principle.

The AMG® SL 43 is available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which produces 419 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

The AMG® 4.0-liter V8 Biturbo engine is offered in two states of tune. In the SL 55, the V8 unit produces 469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, while AMG® SL 63 delivers 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.

The same 4.0-liter V8 Biturbo engine is also available in a plug-in hybrid performance configuration. The V8 engine resides up front, while a 201-horsepower electric motor is mounted at the rear. The SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE puts down a combined 803 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque, making it the fastest SL Roadster available. In fact, it put down a 0-60 MPH time of just 2.8 seconds.

All of these engines are mated to an AMG® SPEEDSHIFT® Multi-clutch 9-speed transmission, which uses a wet start-off clutch in place of a torque converter for quicker response to accelerator pedal activity.

Power is distributed to all four wheels through the AMG® Performance 4MATIC®+ all-wheel drive system, which includes a rear limited-slip differential. The system ensures optimum traction from each tire at its physical limit in curves. Greater traction also means quicker takeoff, resulting in a 3.8-second 0-60 mph time for the SL 55 and just 3.1 seconds for the SL 63. Of course, the system also provides a high level of handling stability and safety under poor conditions, such as wet or snowy roads.

Chassis

The four-wheel multi-link suspension system is enhanced with AMG® ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL. Active hydraulic elements replace conventional mechanical torsion-bar anti-roll bars to compensate for rolling movements. It is as if the torsion roll bars could change from non-existent to very stiff in fractions of a second. Thus, when driving straight ahead, the system compensates for individual obstacles that would otherwise lead to rolling movements. In curves, the system uses the vehicle’s existing kinetic energy to help keep the body flat. The system’s hydraulics can also lift the front axle 1.2 inches to accommodate curbs and speed bumps.

The new standard active rear-axle steering system will turn the rear wheels in the opposite direction of the front wheels below 60 mph for nimble maneuverability. Above 60 mph, they turn in the same direction to enable agile and stable high-speed handling. The brakes feature lightweight composite discs to reduce unsprung weight. A new system connecting the disc and brake chamber reduces space, which is used to improve brake cooling.

AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT controls and manages drivetrain behavior with “Slippery,” “Comfort,” “Sport,” “Sport +,” “Individual,” and “RACE” modes. Each program offers a unique driving experience precisely tailored to different driving conditions.

Exterior

The 2026 AMG® SL retains its long hood and short rear deck dimensions, but with an expanded cabin to enable 2+2 seating. The body surfacing appears organic, with multiple compound curves and virtually no edges. It all starts with an intelligent composition of aluminum, high-strength steel, magnesium, and fiber composites, creating a body that’s more rigid, more safety-focused, and more precisely crafted. It’s also more aerodynamic, with a lower center of gravity.

The large grille provides a signature that denotes its pedigree. LED headlamps light the way with a sleek profile that fits perfectly up front. At the rear, the narrow LED taillights add more elements to this sleek roadster.

Aerodynamic details augment airflow from front to back, including an automatically deployable rear spoiler.

The most important piece of the AMG® SL is its soft top. The top eliminates nearly 50 pounds, thereby significantly lowering the car’s center of gravity. In 15 seconds, the soft top Z-folds to form its own rear deck—all without intruding on trunk space.

Interior

From the intricate turbine HVAC vents to the elegant materials and metallic finishes, the interior is a superb example of Mercedes-Benz craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail.

The dashboard incorporates the best of digital technology with a strong driver-oriented design, as evidenced by the SL’s “hyper-analog” cockpit. This elevates a tradition of rich materials and sculptural design within a highly digital environment. A reconfigurable instrument panel is set into a classic gauge visor. The dash flows into the doors and console. Every sense finds a connection. The helm is controlled by the flat-bottom AMG® Performance steering wheel covered in Nappa leather or Nappa leather/microfiber. Dual side spokes effectively create zones for all controls, making them instantly accessible.

The multicontour front seats feature power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage programs. AIRSCARF® neck warming helps lengthen the top-down driving season. These features are all standard.

Technology

The 11.9-inch center multimedia touchscreen’s portrait format offers numerous advantages, especially for navigation. It is powered by the latest MBUX (Mercedes‑Benz User Experience) infotainment system, which includes extensive AMG®-specific with exclusive menu items such as “AMG® Performance,” where the driver can call up a wide range of data with a tap of the finger, including engine output, lateral acceleration, power distribution of the fully variable 4MATIC® all-wheel drive, tire pressure and fluid temperatures among other readings. Also available for track days is AMG® TRACK PACE, which records your driving time to tenth-of-a-second accuracy while tracking 80 items of vehicle-specific data

Safety

Even a high-performance Roadster needs to be protected from harm. Driver assistance and safety features include Blind Spot Assist, Surround View 360-Degree Camera, and Head-Up Display, to name a few.
