Performance

The updated 2026 G 550 is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with hybrid assist and an electric auxiliary compressor. This advanced driveline has a power rating of 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission delivers power to a permanent 4MATIC®® all-wheel-drive system through a two-speed transfer case.

The brand-new electric 2026 G 580 with EQ Technology is available exclusively in the Edition One special edition for 2026. It is driven by four permanently excited synchronous motors—one for each wheel. This drive system puts down a combined 579 horsepower and 859 pound-feet of torque. Each wheel is individually driven for optimal traction. There is a selectable low range for extreme traction situations, such as snow or mud. The 2026 G 580 can travel about 239 miles on a full battery. When using a DC fast charger, you can recoup 10-80% of battery capacity in just 32 minutes at a charging speed of 200 kilowatts. The 116-kWh battery pack resides beneath the cabin, between the front and rear wheels, to maintain a lower center of gravity.

For the ultimate level of performance, there is the AMG®® G 63. Powered by a handcrafted AMG®® biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, the AMG®® G 63 puts down 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. To make this horsepower more efficient, there is a hybrid assist system that delivers more torque while returning energy to the drive and electrical systems.

Keeping the 2026 G-Class stable and controlled is achieved through a front independent double-wishbone suspension and a rear live axle with coil springs and adaptive damping. It serves up its off-road chops thanks to its 9.5-inch ground clearance, 27.5-inch fording depth, and ability to climb a 45-degree slope. On the electric G 580, the steering system counter-rotates its opposite-side motors so that it can rotate about its own axis. Its new off-road skills don’t stop there: G-STEERING can tighten its turning radius, while an off-road crawl function offers three low-speed control modes.

On the 2026 G 550, you can fine-tune its performance through DYNAMIC SELECT, from suspension to traction systems. ECO, Comfort, and Sport modes are for on-road driving. Off-road programs include Trail for loose surfaces, Rock for hard, uneven terrain, and Sand. There’s also an Individual mode you can customize.

For the 2026 G 580, ELECTRIC DYNAMIC SELECT lets drivers fine-tune its performance characteristics and driving character with a single control. On-road modes include efficiency-focused Comfort, Sport, and customizable Individual. Trail and Rock modes offer a range of off-road benefits.

Exterior

The 2026 G-Class retains the same boxy shape that makes this ultimate SUV iconic. The upright design has its advantages. The flatter hood improves outward visibility and lane positioning, while the large, nearly upright windshield does not distort the field of vision. The side profile has deep side windows.

The rear door opens to the side for accessibility and wide cargo loading. The spare tire is attached to the rear door, providing easier access if you need to change a tire. Standard on the 2026 G 550 is a set of 19-inch wheels, while 20-inch wheels are part of the 2026 G 580’s package. The 2026 AMG®® G 63 also wears 20-inch wheels with summer performance tires.

The finishing touch is the larger three-pointed star up front on all G-Class models. Grille texture and design depend on which model you choose. A choice of paint colors, including a series of MANUFAKTUR® colors and themes, makes your G-Class stand out even further.

Interior

From the intricate turbine HVAC vents to the elegant materials and metallic finishes, the interior is a superb example of Mercedes-Benz craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. The dashboard incorporates the best of digital technology with a strong driver orientation, as evidenced by the 12.3-inch configurable driver display.

MANUFAKTUR® colorway options offer a spectrum of interior enhancements to individualize your 2026 G-Class. Inside the spacious cabin, MANUFAKTUR® Nappa leather upholstery is available in a range of colors and tailored in a variety of styles for the seats, dash, steering wheel, and more. There are also new MANUFAKUR® options available for the AMG® G 63, including a Black Edition.

Technology

In the center of it all is a 12.3-inch touchscreen display utilizing navigation with augmented reality. The intelligent, ever-advancing digital voice assistant of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) already knows 20 commands tailored to the G-Class.

As part of the central display, an OFFROAD menu can display useful data and settings for rugged terrain. Foremost among them is a “Transparent Hood” feature that uses the vehicle’s exterior cameras to help reveal obstacles, ruts, and breakovers right as you crawl up to them.
